The southern gateway to Leicester and Leicestershire
Described as the southern gateway to Leicester and Leicestershire, this small borough is rich in history. Wigston has medieval roots whilst Oadby grew into a fashionable suburb for the 19th century factory owners of Leicester’s shoe and stocking manufacturers. Today it provides a link between the bustle of the city and the more rural landscapes of Harborough.
Uncover a range of attractions including Oadby’s free 16-acre Botanic Garden and Attenborough Arboretum featuring plants from around the world. The Wigston Framework Knitters Museum is housed in a 17th century Master Hosier’s house with two storey workshop extension featuring the machinery used to make stockings.
The area is also home to Leicester Race course, with 30 race days a year, and the latest addition, Stoughton Grange Rural Centre; a rural retail centre, farm shop and deli, gastro pub and glamping hideaway.
