What’s on this summer in Blaby

Blaby District has loads of fantastic events and activities taking place summer. It kicked off with the fantastic PitchFest Live, a day of food and music which was held at Whetstone Juniors Football club by the local community. As we head into the summer, there’s loads more on offer, and we wrap up some of the top events below!

21 June: Festival in the Den

Held at Leicester Lions Rugby Club, this year’s festival will showcase some of the best tribute acts the UK has to offer! There will be music from The Moderators (Ska/2 Tone Classics); Kazabian; Coldplay Tribute; Onside Britpop (Oasis, Stone Roses etc), Fearlessly Taylor (A tribute to Taylor Swift); Forever Eighties and Take@That (a tribute to Take That)

Running from 12 noon to 11pm there will be fun for all of the family with delicious food and drink, fairground rides and inflatables, all culminating with a spectacular Firework finale. Just make sure to bring your sunscreen and a hat because it’s going to get HOT!


5 July: Lubbfest

Lubbesthorpe Alive brings you Lubbfest! A fantastic food and music festival which is taking place this July in Lubbesthorpe (found just south of Leicester Forest East). Expect live music, a variety of street food vendors, plus inflatables and games for the kids.

Whlie it’s open to everyone, LubbFest is a community fundraiser which enables Lubbesthorpe Alive to maintain groups and events throughout the year, with a focus on bringing the local community together. Lubbfest takes place from 11am to 5pm at Old Warren Park, behind the Community Hub, near New Lubbesthorpe Primary School.


2 August: GlastonBlaby

Taking over Leicester Lions Rugby Club in August, GlastonBlaby is a charity music festival featuring top local artists including Deaiah Marie, Ayesha Swift, The Collective, Harry Pentony and The Shotts, plus some of the top tribute acts in the business. There will also be a wonderful selection of stalls selling food and drinks, as well as other items and fun things to do.

This year GlastonBlaby have teamed up with The Big Difference and Leicester Comedy Festival to bring a full day of live comedy to the BRAND NEW Comedy Stage– 11am to 7pm, packed with laughs, rising stars, and festival fun! Click here to find out more.

All proceeds from the day will be shared between 4 local charities Zinthiya Trust, The Next Chapter Rescue & Rehoming Centre,  The Travers Foundation and  Leicestershire Search and Rescue.


29-31 August: The Victory Show

Rounding off summer in Blaby District is the UK’s biggest World War II commemoration and recreation event. The Victory Show is celebrating its 20th anniversary as well as marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Including more than 100 Historical Societies and re-enactment groups the show recreates several eras and theatres of war spanning the period of 1939-45. The centrepieces of the show are a huge recreation of a tank battle, and the air show featuring a huge range of WWII aircraft from all corners of the world. Previous featured flypasts have including Hawker Hurricanes, Supermarine Spitfires, Lancaster Bombers and parachute displays from a working DC-10. The full aircraft line-up will be announced soon.

The Victory Show aims to educate as well as entertain, telling the story of the second world war, while celebrating and commemorating the veterans who fought for our freedom. A large traders area includes stalls selling an extensive range of militaria, uniforms, 1940s collectables and vehicle spares. You can also buy tickets for an exclusive 1940s dinner dance where period costume is positively encouraged!

From Airmen to Infantry, The Victory Show will let you step right back into the fabulous 1940s.
