Watching the World Cup in Leicester
We’re getting hyped for this summer’s World Cup, which marks 60 years since England lifted the Jules Rimet trophy. We’ll also be cheering on Scotland as they head to the World Cup for the first time since 1998! As it’s being held in the US, many of the games are at relatively unsocial hours, but the big matches will be 9 and 10pm kick offs, so perfect for the long summer nights! Take a look at our tips for the best places to watch the footie!
Something a bit different
Summer in the Square: Leicester’s biggest fanzone comes to Jubilee Square, with a massive outdoor screen, street food and bars, live music and lots more. Showing every important match completely FREE, England games are 18+ and first come first served. They’ll also be showing Wimbledon during the day!
Lane 7: this is already one of the top spots in the city for sports, with a massive screen, the tables and surrounding balconies, great viewing spots everywhere, and if the tension gets to you, you can unwind with a game of ten pin bowling.
Everards Meadows: It’s a fantastic spot for food, drink and now for the first time Everards Meadows is turning into a fanzone for England’s games. Table bookings are recommended!
Leicester Athena: Watch England on giant screens alongside 1,100 fans, with live entertainment, great food and an electric party atmosphere. Tickets are available here
What a Shot: On the edge of the city, What a Shot is a sports bar like no other. Big screens showing every match plus award-winning Indian food and of course all the drinks you’ll need to wash it down!
Pubs for that traditional atmosphere
O‘Neills is one of the city’s top spots to take in a game, and you can be sure they’ll be rocking for England and Scotland’s games. On the edge of the DMU camps, the Soar Point is a top student hang-out and you’ll be able to relax on their riverside terrace before and after their game (and for a half time breather!) Up on London Road, The Loaded Dog has a massive room which you can bet will be packed with fans, and The Tree on Leicester’s High Street will be showing every England game and their massive beer garden is the perfect place to wind down!
On Market Street The Distillery is a massive bar with big screens throughout, you’ll be sure to be able to find a spot to watch. Then on Belvoir Street there are two places that every self-respecting sports fan knows about. Walkabout is packed with screens so no matter where you are you’ll be able to get a good view, and The Locker Room even has little screens at their tables so you won’t miss a minute of the action.
