The Leicestershire Curry Awards winners

Last night the crème de la crème of Leicester and Leicestershire’s Indian food scene gathered in Leicester’s Athena for the annual Leicestershire Curry Awards.
This is the first year that the awards, set up by local businessman and journalist Romail Gulzaar, have expanded to include restaurants from across our county and it’s a reflection of the sheer quality of our region’s food that it was the most successful ever!
The night was a gala black tie evening, with outfits to rival any West End film premiere and started with a procession of bag pipers! Fireworks on stage heralded the arrival of the night’s hosts, BBC Leicester’s Summayah Mughal and Ady Daman.
Guests on the evening including a variety of restauranteurs and local notaries including Arinder Bhullar, a designer on Belgrave Rd who made costumes for the film Black Prince and Mike Kapur, the Lord-Lieutenant of Leicester and Leicestershire.
Food on the evening was provided by Romail’s new restaurant Geoffrey’s and there were performances of traditional Indian dance by Nupur Arts, and a flute performance by Joanna Preston.
Visit Leicester is proud to be a supporter of the Leicestershire Curry Awards, and our Taste The Place video was shown to the audience, before Ady Dayman announced that Visit Leicester will be supporting Romail in his quest for Leicester to become curry capital of the UK!
