From historic pubs to beautiful cafes and lakeside restaurants, these places pride themselves on their use of locally sourced produce and have a quirky charm that only an independent business can create. Find out more at the Visit Blaby District website and read on for our quick rundown of the best places to eat in Blaby this Autumn…
The Bakers Arms
Steeped in history, the thatched Bakers Arms in Blaby is believed to be built in 1485 (the same year as King Richard III was killed at the Battle of Bosworth!) making it the oldest pub in the county. Situated a stone’s throw from Blaby church (it was originally part of a row of properties constructed to house workers who built the church), the pub provides a connection to the past. Make sure to try their speciality homemade pies, including the King Richard III ‘Grete’ pie, based on a medieval meat pie eaten by the King! The perfect pitstop after an autumnal walk around Bouskell Park.

The Grey Gosling
Inspired by the best of modern British dining, The Grey Gosling in Thurlaston celebrates quality, simplicity, and seasonality. From perfectly aged steaks to refined takes on British favourites, each dish is crafted with care using locally sourced ingredients. Set in a building that has stood since 1620, it gives new life to a well-known local landmark in the heart of the village. The menu offers brunch and light lunches to evening dishes and generous Sunday roasts.

Cook in the Nook
Located in the pretty village of Cosby, The Cook in the Nook is an independently run cafe-bistro serving a delicious selection of brunch and lunch dishes using locally sourced ingredients. Autumnal specials are currently on offer including homemade cinnamon buns, toasted marshmallow hot chocolate, pumpkin spice frappé, and of course the Cook in the Nook staple, the Full Cosby breakfast complete with homemade hash brown.

The Forge Inn
Part of the independent ‘Beautiful Pubs’ collective, The Forge Inn is situated in Glenfield, proudly serving ethically sourced and freshly prepared food. The pub’s seasonal menu is offered every day, with tasty specials often added (including delicious cocktails). Then on Sundays make sure to try the roast with homemade Yorkshire puddings, goose-fat roasties and real gravy. The perfect way to warm up after a brisk autumnal walk.

The Royal Oak
Set in the heart of Kirby Muxloe, The Royal Oak is an independent village pub known for its food and cask ales. It also houses Real Flavours Deli, which was a community staple for over a decade before it relocated over the road to the pub in 2020. The deli offers a broad selection of gourmet foods, from artisan cheeses, deli sandwiches and meats to freshly baked bread, sausage rolls, samosas and pastries. With both takeaway and sit-down options available, it’s a great place to try after exploring the grounds of Kirby Muxloe Castle.

Lakeside Bar & Bistro
Set beside the tranquil waters of Stanton Lakes on the edge of Stoney Stanton, the Lakeside Bar and Bistro offers great food and beautiful surroundings. Enjoy delicious tapas-style dishes, including the new ‘tapas tasting experience’ where the team put together a personalised set of dishes bespoke for your table. There’s also a traditional Sunday lunch on offer at weekends. Sit back, watch the sun set over the lake and enjoy a delicious meal!
