Location Leicester Collaborates with Visit Leicester and Local Agencies to Support Development of City’s Film Office

Location Leicester, an initiative from independent production company 52 Stone Film, is proud to announce its collaboration with Visit Leicester and wider local agencies to support the development of a dedicated film office for the city.

Building on our film heritage

As Leicester continues to grow its reputation as a vibrant cultural hub, this partnership represents a key step towards positioning the city as a dynamic, film-friendly destination for national and international screen productions. Location Leicester is working closely with stakeholders to lay the foundations for a centralised film office that will streamline location access, support visiting productions, and promote Leicester’s unique urban, historical, and cultural assets to the screen industries.

Locations across Leicestershire have long been prized for use in films in television due to the classic British countryside alongside fantastic historical locations which can transport the viewer back in time. You can take a look at a few of the films and TV shows that have been filmed here by looking at our Leicestershire on Screen blog.

Through this partnership, Location Leicester is providing practical support and industry insight to help shape a film office model that works for both producers and the local community. This includes developing a locations database, mapping out filming processes and permitting pathways, and engaging with property owners, businesses, and public services to ensure Leicester is ready to welcome increased production activity.

Visit Leicester is supporting the initiative by amplifying the city’s offer to the screen industries, celebrating Leicester’s film-ready spaces and growing creative ecosystem.

all the ingredients are here!

“Leicester has all the ingredients for a thriving screen sector — diverse locations, skilled talent, and a strong creative community,” said Dan Edwards, CEO of 52 Stone Film. “We’re thrilled to be working alongside Visit Leicester and city partners to help establish the infrastructure and support systems that will make it easier for productions to choose Leicester.”

Mike Denby, Director for Place Marketing at Visit Leicester, said: “A film office in Leicester has the potential to generate significant opportunities for our local economy, creative industries, and young people. Leicester and Leicestershire have a rich history in film and screen, with our stunning locations featuring in Oscar-winning films like The Hours and Golden Globe-winning Netflix series such as The Crown. The TV and film industry has a significant positive impact on tourism and local businesses in the region, and we welcome seeing more productions choose Leicester and Leicestershire as their backdrop in the future. We’re pleased to see Location Leicester taking a proactive role in this important work.”

This collaboration aims to ensure that Leicester is well-positioned to attract productions, create jobs, and inspire local talent, while showcasing the city on screens around the world.
