Leicester’s Best Pizza

Leicester’s Best Pizza

No matter what form it comes in, frozen, crispy, deep-pan or thin; pizza always remains one of life’s most wonderful pleasures. Most follow the simple but effective formula of crispy dough, rich tomato sauce, a scattering of toppings, and last but certainly not least, the cheese that ties it all together. However, the Devil’s in the detail, and it’s working out all the nuances and ratios of ingredients that turn a pizza from decent, into truly incredible.

Peter Pizzeria

Peter’s is an independent Neapolitan style pizza house situated in the heart of Leicester city centre (and one in Loughborough). Their focus is on authenticity, sourcing specialist ingredients from some of the best suppliers in the pizza-making industry, including Caputo flour from Naples, Olive oil from a co-operative farm on the Italian coast, as well as a superb red wine selection from a family run vineyard just beneath the Alps.

Choosing between pizzas is never easy, and this is no exception. We can normally recommend the ever changing Pizza of the Month, often featuring rare and delicious toppings, but once it’s gone, it’s gone. If the special at the time is not quite up your street, why not try the Old 3 Pizza, a luscious mix of ricotta, salami, fennel and pistachio, finished with a generous drizzle of truffle oil. Don’t forget to save room for the tempting dessert selection, including the very popular Nutella pizza.

Dough What!

You can find them on King Street and they pride themselves on being the only place in the region to serve both Neapolitan thin crust and deep dish pizzas. We can confirm that they’re definitely worth trying. Their pistacho and nutella dessert pizzas are a revelation too! Try the cheese pull challenge next time you head there, it’s a social media must!

San Carlos

San Carlos is located on Granby Street and made famous by the Leicester Premiership winning team, who often frequented the restaurant on their time off. True championship pizza we’d say! San Carlos boast the only wood burning oven in Leicester and only use the freshest Italian ingredients to suit all tastes. Well worth a visit to satisfy the pizza hunger!

Martin Bros Micro Pizzeria

Right in the heart of trendy Clarendon Park try handmade Neapolitan pizzas from Martin Bros alongside quirky craft beers from around the world or artisan coffee. From the spicy Nduja based favourite Kickin It to the veggie favourite Yellow Belly, they have loads of choice. We’ve also heard an actual Italian say that these are the best pizzas she’d had outside the motherland.

So there you have it…a whistle stop tour of some of the pizza places in Leicester!
