Looking for something to do during February half term? Well we’ve got some great ideas for things to do with the kids, one for every day of the week in fact! So have a look through, and see what you could do this Feb.


Lanterns of the Wild at Twycross Zoo

This February half-term, it is your last chance to see the stunning Lanterns of the Wild event at Twycross Zoo. Running until the 22 February, Lanterns of the Wild transforms Twycross Zoo after dark! Step into glowing animal worlds, explore vibrant habitats, and spark your family’s sense of wonder as you explore over a mile of life-size lanterns. Combine this with zoo entry for just £26 for kids and £32 for adults. Your zoo tickets will be valid for a year so you can visit as many times as you like! You could also see the baby Bonobo and Gibbon who have just arrived at the zoo!


Mosaic making at Jewry Wall Museum

If you’re looking for something creative to keep the kids entertained this half term then why not pop along to the Jewry Wall Real Roman Experience and get involved in the Mosaic Coaster Making sessions! It’s a fun, hands-on activity where children can design and create their own colourful mosaic coaster to take home – perfect for keeping little hands busy and imaginations flowing. Spaces are filling up, so be sure to book your place soon. Then have a wander around the museum to learn all about Leicester’s Roman History! Book here


Great deals at the Great Central Railway

Throughout half term the Great Central Railway have fantastic deals on offer for local residents and kids as part of their Discover Your Railway event! Take a heritage train ride, meet their home fleet of locomotives, and see what goes on across the working railway. Running on Saturday 14, Sunday 15 and Thursday 19 February, there’s loads to see and do – from behind-the-scenes access to the loco shed and footplate visits and refreshments – all set against the backdrop of Britain’s only double track, main line heritage railway. Crafts and creativity at the cathedral!

Leicester Cathedral is holding special FREE creative sewing workshop sessions on Tuesday 17 and Thursday 19 February from 10am-12noon and 2-4pm. Come and have a go at sewing using binca and coloured threads. All materials are provided and there’s no need to book, just drop in. If you are able to make a small donation on the day towards costs it would be appreciated. All children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. From age 5+. The Cathedral is also hosting three Kids Comedy Festival shows during the week. Ask Granny and Benny Shakes Slugagedon on Tuesday 17 Feb and Richard Atkinson: Saints Alive on Thursday 19 Feb.


Bosworth Battlefield Perfect Pancakes Hunt

Throughout half term Bosworth Battlefield are holding a special trail inspired by Shrove Tuesday for all their younger visitors. Their Master Chef has lost their famous pancake recipe! Can you follow the clues around the battlefield grounds and country park to help find all the ingredients needed to make perfect pancakes? Pick up a sheet from the Ticket Office or Shop for just £3 and claim your prize once you’ve found them all!


UK Kids Comedy Festival

The UK Kids Comedy Festival runs alongside Leicester Comedy Festival and is a fantastic way to get your little ones interested in this awesome artform. You can take in shows including the Rubbish Shakespeare Company’s Romeo and Juliet at The Guildhall, A Star Wars Improv Show at the King Richard III pub, Name of The Dame, a film noir and Airplane inspired play at the Big Difference Venue. Laugh Academy is back at Attenborough Arts Centre during half term where you can spend a day learning the trick of the trade and get to take part in the Laugh Academy Showcase at the end of the week, and their Joke Spot will once again visit five public libraries giving kids the chance to tell their best jokes!


The Haymarket gets set for half term

There’s loads of free fun at the Haymarket Shopping Centre this half term. Have Fossil Fun with Charnwood Forest Geopark from Saturday 14 to Monday 16 February. Step back in time and join the Fossil Challenge! Help decorate 3,000 fossil models inspired by real discoveries from Charnwood Forest. The finished fossils will become part of the magical Geopark in the Dark event at Bradgate Park this March. And Monday 16 February will be Dino Day! Meet Deena the Dinosaur, an incredible animatronic Parasaurolophus, appearing alongside Ella the Cave Dweller on stilts! Pus there’s a FREE dinosaur craft workshop with Mission Magpie on the first floor!
